What is High blood pressure?

A certain amount of pressure in your blood vessels is needed to pump blood around your body to deliver energy and oxygen. However, if there is too much pressure in your blood vessels, it puts extra strain on your arteries and heart. Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg). A blood pressure reading below 120/80mmHg is considered to be ideal. A reading over 140/90mmHg indicates high blood pressure (medically known as hypertension).

There isn’t always a clear cause of high blood pressure, but you are at increased risk if you:
•are aged over 65
•are overweight
•have a relative with high blood pressure
•eat too much salt
•don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables
•don’t do enough exercise
•drink too much alcohol
•drink too much coffee (or other caffeine-based drinks)

High blood pressure can affect anyone of any age, so regular medical check-ups are important.

How can hypnosis help with high blood pressure?

We’re often led to believe the only way to cope with blood pressure problems or hypertension is to take medication.

One way to learn to relax easily and at will is though hypnosis. The main idea behind hypnosis is that the mind and body work together and cannot be separated. Through hypnosis you can use the subconscious mind to help resolve body issues. It’s simple, safe, effective and has no side effects.

Because there are different lifestyle factors affecting your blood pressure, each person’s hypnotherapy treatment is unique. I use a variety of techniques and methods to help you look at and tackle your lifestyle factors and work with you to make the changes at a physical and psychological level, teaching you how to naturally address your blood pressure.  This programe includes:

Using mental imagery to take you to a time and place that was, for you, very relaxing.  I’ll help your mind visualise a way the problem can be solved physically by your own powerful, inner resources. You imagine controling a dial and adjusting the pressure in your blood vessels very gradually downwards so you envision blood flowing through your body healthily.

Providing you with post-hypnotic suggestions for controlling blood pressure, regaining physical and mental balance.

Teaching you self-hypnosis skills, so that you will focus on breathing and relaxation techniques to remove tension, nervousness and anxiety.
